Children who live outside the priority area, subject to their passing the selection test
Please note - 10% of places reserved for pupils living within the priority area and for pupils living outside the priority area are designated for children who exceed the pass mark and who are entitled to ‘preferential consideration’, including looked-after children and those entitled to Free School Meals.
In the event of pupils achieving the same mark for the last available place, priority will be given to the child entitled to ‘preferential consideration’; then, if this does not differentiate, to the pupil who lives closest to the School as measured in a straight line from the front door of the child’s normal/habitual place of residence to the nearest pupil entrance to the School, with those living nearest being given preference.
School Summary
Westcliff High School for Girls was established in 1920 and is a girls’ grammar school in Southend-on-Sea, Essex. The school became an academy in 2011 and has a sixth form which accepts both boys and girls.
Westcliff Girls’ has specialised in science and engineering since 2003. The school is a National Teaching School and has previously won both the Healthy Schools Award and the Diana Award. In 2014, Westcliff High School for Girls achieved the second highest GCSE results in the country.

Exam length — 2 × 1 hour exams (plus 10 minutes reading time).
Qualifying score — 303 (a score of 338 is required for students living outside of the priority area).
Other exam information:
The English paper will consist of comprehension, grammar and vocabulary, creative/extended writing, and applied reasoning (literacy and verbal).
The Mathematics paper will consist of questions consistent with KS2 National curriculum and applied reasoning (mathematical/non-verbal).
The overall score will have a 50:50 weighting - English (50%) and Mathematics (50%).
Score will be aggregated and mathematically standardised for each candidate.
