Catchment area —  Nonsuch High School does have a catchment area but candidates will only be considered eligible for admission if they achieve a qualifying score in their 11 Plus exams.

The catchment area is defined by a circle with a radius of 5.25 km from the front door of the school.

Over-subscription policy —  Where qualifying applications for admission exceed the number of places available, places will be allocated in the following order of priority:

  1. Looked after girls or previously looked after girls.

  2. Girls eligible for Pupil Premium or Service Premium (up to 10 places).

  3. Girls who achieve the highest score in the entrance exam, irrespective of home address (up to 85 places).

  4. Girls within the school’s catchment area who achieve the qualifying score (up to 110 places).

School Summary

Nonsuch High School for Girls was founded in 1938 and is an all-girls, selective grammar school in Sutton. It became an academy in 2011 and specialises in science and languages.

Nonsuch High School encourages its girls to participate in fields where women are currently underrepresented, such as science, technology and engineering.

In 2016, it ranked as the 17th best performing state school by GCSE results.

Exam Information

Exam style — Selective Eligibility Test (SET) for the Sutton Schools and the Nonsuch & Wallington Second Stage Entrance Examination

The schools have not announced their exam provider in order to make the exams fair for all candidates.

Exam types:

  • English 

  • Mathematics

Exam length — 40-50 minutes each.

Pass mark — The pass mark is decided by the school after the tests have been marked.

Please note that parents are not informed of the exact score their child achieved. They are only told whether their child has passed.

Children who are unsuccessful will sometimes be informed of their marks.

Other exam information — 

  • There are two stages of exams.

  • Maths and English exams are taken back to back on the same day.

  • In the first stage of exams, all questions are multiple choice in both the English and Maths exams. 

  • The second stage consists of an extended English writing task and a standard Maths paper.

  • Candidates record their answers on a separate answer sheet.

  • The scores from all tests are combined to create the overall entrance test score.

  • Scores will be standardised. 

Please note that candidates must achieve the minimum qualifying mark in the SET (first stage of testing) to be invited back to sit the second stage tests.
